      Album Details

Roberto Sierra's "Missa Latina, 'Pro Pace'" is a profound and moving composition that transcends the traditional boundaries of sacred music. Commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington DC, this work is a response to global turmoil, with its title "Pro Pace" translating to "For Peace." Sierra, known for his innovative blend of classical and contemporary influences, delivers a powerful and introspective exploration of faith, hope, and the universal quest for peace.

The album features the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Andreas Delfs, with vocal performances by Heidi Grant Murphy and Nathaniel Webster. The seven-track composition is a journey through the traditional Latin Mass, from the solemn Introitus to the poignant Agnus Dei. Each section is meticulously crafted, showcasing Sierra's mastery of orchestration and his ability to evoke deep emotional resonance.

The centerpiece of the album is the Oboe Concerto in D Minor, with its hauntingly beautiful Adagio movement. This interlude provides a moment of reflection amidst the grandeur of the Mass, highlighting Sierra's versatility as a composer.

Recorded in 2009 and released under the Naxos label, "Missa Latina, 'Pro Pace'" is a testament to Sierra's artistic vision and his commitment to creating music that speaks to the human experience. The album's duration of 67 minutes offers a comprehensive exploration of Sierra's musical language, making it a compelling addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a longtime admirer of Sierra's work or a newcomer to his compositions, this album promises a deeply enriching listening experience.
