      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Siegfried Wagner's musical legacy with "Preludes and Overtures," a captivating collection of orchestral works that showcase the composer's unique voice and his deep connection to the romantic traditions of his famous grandfather, Richard Wagner. Released in 1997 by Deutsche Grammophon, this album features nine exquisite tracks performed by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt under the baton of Dimitrij Kitajenko.

The album opens with "Glück," a symphonic poem that boldly follows in the footsteps of Franz Liszt's program music, exploring various facets of happiness through six evocative movements. From the contemplative "Andante" to the mystical "Glück in der Berührung mit der Geisterwelt," each section offers a distinct musical landscape that reflects Siegfried Wagner's fascination with fairy-tale motifs and his grandfather's operatic themes.

In addition to "Glück," the album includes overtures and preludes from Siegfried Wagner's operas, such as "Bruder Lustig" and "Rainulf und Adelasia," as well as the prelude from "Sonnenflammen." These works demonstrate the composer's mastery of orchestration and his ability to create memorable, dramatic musical moments.

Recorded at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 1996, this album benefits from the outstanding acoustics of the venue and the superb playing of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt. The performances are both powerful and nuanced, bringing out the full depth and richness of Siegfried Wagner's compositions.

With a duration of one hour and six minutes, "Preludes and Overtures" is an essential addition to the collection of any classical music enthusiast. This album offers a unique opportunity to explore the musical world of Siegfried Wagner, a composer who, while often overshadowed by his famous grandfather, deserves recognition for his significant contributions to the romantic repertoire.
