      Album Details

Vilde Frang, the Norwegian-born violin virtuoso, makes a stunning debut with her solo recording, "Sibelius: Violin Concerto & Humoresques - Prokofiev: Violin Concerto No. 1." Released in 2009 under Warner Classics, this album is a captivating blend of classical masterpieces that showcase Frang's extraordinary talent and artistry.

The album features a compelling mix of works by Jean Sibelius and Sergei Prokofiev. Frang's rendition of Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47, is a tour de force, showcasing her technical prowess and emotional depth. The concerto's three movements—Allegro moderato, Adagio di molto, and Allegro ma non tanto—are performed with a sensitivity and maturity that belies Frang's youth at the time of recording.

The album also includes Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 19, a work that Frang interprets with a blend of lyricism and virtuosity. The concerto's three movements—Andantino, Scherzo. Vivacissimo, and Moderato—are brought to life with a sense of joy and playfulness that is infectious.

In addition to the concertos, Frang's album features a selection of Sibelius' Humoresques for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 87 and Op. 89. These shorter pieces provide a delightful contrast to the larger works, showcasing Frang's versatility and musicality.

Throughout the album, Frang is accompanied by the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, conducted by Thomas Søndergård. The orchestra's rich, warm sound complements Frang's playing beautifully, creating a recording that is as enjoyable to listen to as it is musically rewarding.

With a total duration of just over an hour, this album is a perfect introduction to Frang's artistry and a testament to her place among the leading violinists of her generation. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
