      Ivry Gitlis (1922-2020) was a legendary Israeli violinist renowned for his virtuosity, idiosyncratic style, and fearless approach to music. Born in Haifa, Gitlis began his musical journey at the age of five and quickly made a name for himself, performing with the world's top orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Berlin Philharmonic. His career was marked by a diverse range of collaborations, from classical giants to rock and jazz legends, including a memorable appearance in the Rolling Stones' "Rock and Roll Circus" film. Gitlis was not just a musician but also a peace activist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, using his platform to promote cultural understanding and accessibility to classical music. His discography features essential historical recordings of works by Berg, Bartók, and Sibelius, among others. Gitlis' unconventional career included premieres of works by avant-garde composers like Xenakis and Maderna, showcasing his passion for experimentation and innovation.
