Sibelius, Adès: Violin Concertos - Augustin Hadelich
Sibelius, Adès: Violin Concertos - Augustin Hadelich

      Album Details

Augustin Hadelich, the acclaimed violinist, presents a captivating exploration of two distinct violin concertos on his album "Sibelius, Adès: Violin Concertos." Released in 2014 under AVIE Records, this classical chamber music collection showcases Hadelich's virtuosity and the rich, contrasting compositions of Jean Sibelius and Thomas Adès.

The album opens with Thomas Adès' modern and intricate "Violin Concerto, 'Concentric Paths,'" divided into three movements: "Rings," "Paths," and "Rounds." Hadelich masterfully navigates the complex, evolving themes of Adès' composition, offering a fresh and compelling interpretation.

The second half of the album features Sibelius' timeless "Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47," performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Hannu Lintu. This concerto, a staple in the violin repertoire, is presented in three movements: "Allegro moderato," "Adagio di molto," and "Allegro, ma non tanto." Hadelich's expressive playing brings out the depth and passion of Sibelius' music, creating a powerful and moving experience.

Complementing the concertos are three humoresques by Sibelius, providing a delightful contrast and showcasing Hadelich's versatility. These shorter pieces, "Humoresque No. 2 in D Major, Op. 87," "Humoresque No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 89," and "Humoresque No. 3 in E-Flat Major, Op. 89," add a playful and lighthearted touch to the album.

With a total duration of just over an hour, "Sibelius, Adès: Violin Concertos" is a testament to Augustin Hadelich's artistry and his ability to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music. This album is a must-listen for fans of violin concertos and those seeking to explore the diverse landscape of classical music.
