      Album Details

Benjamin Frith, a renowned pianist known for his nuanced interpretations and technical brilliance, presents a captivating collection of works by Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. Released on December 18, 1995, under the Naxos label, this album offers a rich tapestry of classical piano music that spans a little over an hour and fourteen minutes.

The album opens with Schumann's "Arabeske in C Major, Op. 18," a piece that showcases Frith's ability to weave intricate melodies with grace and precision. The heart of the album lies in Schumann's "Kinderszenen (Scenes of Childhood), Op. 15," a suite of thirteen character pieces that evoke the innocence and wonder of childhood. Each piece, from the whimsical "Hasche-mann" to the poignant "Traumerei," is rendered with sensitivity and depth, highlighting Frith's versatility and emotional resonance.

Schumann's "Fantasiestücke, Op. 12" follows, offering a series of imaginative and introspective pieces that Frith navigates with a keen ear for detail and a deep understanding of the composer's intent. The album concludes with Brahms' "6 Piano Pieces, Op. 118," a set of intermezzos and a ballade that Frith performs with a masterful balance of passion and restraint.

This album is a testament to Benjamin Frith's artistry, offering a compelling journey through the romantic and introspective worlds of Schumann and Brahms. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this collection promises a rewarding and enriching listening experience.

      About Benjamin Frith

Benjamin Frith is a distinguished British classical pianist, born in South Yorkshire, England, on 11 October 1957. His musical journey began at the tender age of ten under the tutelage of the renowned Fanny Waterman. By fourteen, he had already made a significant mark by winning the National Concerto Competition in Dudley. Frith's repertoire is impressively diverse, spanning from the timeless works of Bach and Scarlatti to the modern compositions of Tippett. Beyond his solo performances, he is also a cherished member of the Gould Piano Trio and the founder of the Frith Piano Quartet. His collaborations extend to notable ensembles like the Endellion and Dante string quartets, and he frequently performs piano duos with Peter Hill. Frith's deep connection with the Steinway piano, which began in his childhood, adds a personal touch to his performances. His recordings, including a notable survey of John Field's piano concertos, have left a lasting impression on classical music enthusiasts.
