      About David Geringas

      David Geringas is a celebrated Lithuanian cellist and conductor, renowned for his exceptional talent and versatility. Born in Vilnius in 1946, Geringas studied under the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich and has since become a prominent figure in the classical music world. His impressive career includes winning the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1970 and pioneering the introduction of contemporary Russian music to Western audiences. With an unusually broad repertoire spanning from early Baroque to modern compositions, Geringas has collaborated with esteemed composers like Sofia Gubaidulina and Edison Denisov. Beyond his solo performances, he is also the founder of the Geringas Chamber Orchestra, showcasing his dedication to chamber music. Married to Tatjana Schatz-Geringas and father to Alexander Geringas, David Geringas continues to inspire as both a performer and educator, leaving an indelible mark on the musical landscape.
