      Album Details

Dive into the world of classical masterpieces with Hermann Scherchen's "Schoenberg, Berg & Skalkottas: Works," a captivating collection released on July 1, 2022, under the Archipel label. This album is a testament to Scherchen's prowess as a conductor, featuring a stunning array of compositions that span a little over an hour and thirteen minutes.

The album showcases the brilliance of three renowned composers: Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg, and Nikos Skalkottas. It opens with Schoenberg's Piano Concerto, Op. 42, a work that exemplifies the composer's innovative approach to tonality. The Kammerkonzert, another Schoenberg piece, is presented in three distinct movements: "I. Thema scherzoso con variazioni," "II. Adagio," and "III. Rondo ritmico con introduzione," each offering a unique exploration of musical expression.

Berg's Piano Concerto No. 2, AK 17, is also featured, with its three movements—"I. Allegro molto vivace," "II. Andantino," and "III. Allegro moderato"—highlighting the composer's lyrical and dramatic sensibilities. The album concludes with Skalkottas's contributions, adding a layer of diversity and richness to the collection.

Hermann Scherchen, known for his meticulous attention to detail and deep understanding of the works he conducts, brings these compositions to life with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. The result is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, making this album a must-listen for classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
