      About Franz Schmidt

      Franz Schmidt, born in Bratislava in 1874, was an Austrian composer, cellist, and pianist whose life and work bridged the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the early 20th century. A pupil of the renowned Leschetizky and Bruckner, Schmidt's musical journey began as a cellist in the Vienna Court Opera. His compositions, deeply rooted in chamber music, reflect his profound understanding of both performance and composition. Schmidt's Symphony No. 2, premiered in 1913, remains a staple in the Vienna Philharmonic's repertoire, showcasing his enduring influence.
