      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of traditional music with Rodion Shchedrin's captivating album, "Piano Terzetto / 3 Funny Pieces / Cello Sonata." Released on January 1, 2006, under the SWR Classic label, this collection showcases Shchedrin's mastery of chamber music, offering a delightful blend of wit, elegance, and technical brilliance.

The album opens with the "Piano Terzetto," a two-movement work that sets the stage with its lively "Luncheon on the Grass" and the playful "Parade alla russe." Following this, the "3 Funny Pieces" bring a sense of humor and charm, featuring whimsical titles like "Conversation" and "Let's Play an Opera by Rossini." The final piece in this set, "Humoreske," rounds off the trio with a touch of lightheartedness.

The second half of the album is dedicated to the "Cello Sonata," a three-movement work that highlights the expressive range of the cello. From the delicate "Allegretto" to the introspective "Moderato" and the deeply moving "Sostenuto assai," this sonata is a testament to Shchedrin's ability to evoke a wide range of emotions through his music.

Performers such as Dmitry Sitkovetsky, David Geringas, and Jan Nemtsov bring these works to life with their exceptional skill and sensitivity. The album's total playing time of 1 hour and 9 minutes ensures a satisfying listening experience, making it a valuable addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a longtime fan of Shchedrin's work or a newcomer to his compositions, this album offers a compelling exploration of his artistic vision.
