      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Sigmund Romberg's "Blossom Time," a delightful operetta that first captivated audiences in 1921. This album, released by Albany Records in 2013, is a charming adaptation of Franz Schubert's melodies, woven into a romantic and whimsical narrative. With a runtime of 1 hour and 44 minutes, it offers a comprehensive journey through the operetta's three acts, featuring 33 tracks that bring to life the story of love and longing inspired by Schubert's own life.

The Ohio Light Opera, under the skilled direction of Steven Byess, breathes new life into Romberg's score, delivering a performance that is both vibrant and heartfelt. From the lively overture to the tender arias and spirited ensembles, each track showcases Romberg's knack for blending Schubert's timeless melodies with his own distinctive operetta style. Highlights include the playful "Three little maids," the romantic "I feel your flowing eyes," and the joyous "Oh, what music!"

"Blossom Time" is not just a musical experience; it's a celebration of the enduring power of love and the beauty of Schubert's music, reimagined by one of the most accomplished composers of the operetta genre. Whether you're a fan of classical music, operetta, or simply great storytelling, this album is sure to enchant and delight. About Sigmund Romberg

Sigmund Romberg, the Hungarian-born American composer, enchanted audiences with his timeless operettas and musicals. Born on July 29, 1887, in Nagykanizsa, Hungary, Romberg's musical prowess was evident from an early age. Despite his parents' initial push for a more "sensible" career, he pursued his passion, studying in Vienna before serving in the Hungarian army and eventually emigrating to the United States. There, he became a staff composer for the Shubert brothers, crafting some of the most beloved works of the 20th century, including "The Student Prince," "The Desert Song," and "The New Moon." Romberg's compositions, though less performed today, remain a testament to his enduring talent and contribution to American musical theater.
