      About Roger Desormiere

Roger Désormière, born in Vichy, France, in 1898, was a pioneering French conductor whose career spanned the first half of the 20th century. A graduate of the Paris Conservatoire, Désormière began his musical journey as a flautist in various Parisian orchestras before transitioning to conducting. He made his debut with the Concerts Pleyel in 1921 and quickly established himself as a champion of contemporary composers. Désormière's repertoire included works by Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Poulenc, Auric, and Sauguet, among others. Known for his clear-headed and objective conducting style, Désormière's recordings are celebrated for their lack of exaggeration and impeccable taste. His post-war recording career further solidified his legacy as one of the most important French conductors of his time.
