      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical guitar with Göran Söllscher's masterful rendition of timeless compositions by Joaquín Rodrigo and Heitor Villa-Lobos. This album, released on January 1, 1990, under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, showcases Söllscher's virtuosity and the exquisite orchestration of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

The album opens with Rodrigo's iconic "Concierto de Aranjuez," a piece renowned for its evocative melodies and rich harmonies. The three movements—"Allegro con spirito," "Adagio," and "Allegro gentile"—are performed with a delicate touch and profound expression, highlighting the intricate interplay between the guitar and the orchestra.

Following this masterpiece, the album features Rodrigo's "Fantasía para un gentilhombre," a suite that pays homage to the Spanish Renaissance. The five movements, including the famous "Adagio" and the lively "Danza de las hachas," are brought to life with Söllscher's impeccable technique and musical sensitivity.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Villa-Lobos' "Guitar Concerto, W501," a work that blends Brazilian rhythms with classical structures. The three movements—"Allegro preciso," "Andantino e Andante," and "Allegretto non troppo"—demonstrate Söllscher's versatility and the orchestra's dynamic range.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 4 minutes, this album is a treasure trove for classical music enthusiasts. Göran Söllscher's artistry, combined with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra's refined playing, makes this recording a standout in the genre. Whether you're a seasoned classical aficionado or a newcomer to the world of guitar concertos, this album promises an enriching and enjoyable listening experience.
