      Album Details

Dive into the rich and vibrant world of Ottorino Respighi with this captivating album, released on November 27, 2007, under the Naxos label. This collection showcases Respighi's mastery in blending classical and neoclassical styles, offering a diverse range of compositions that will enchant any classical music enthusiast.

The album begins with "Vetrate di chiesa" (Church Windows), a series of four pieces inspired by the stained glass windows of churches. Each movement paints a vivid musical picture, from the serene "La fuga in Egitto" (The Flight into Egypt) to the majestic "San Michele Arcangelo" (St. Michael Archangel). The final two movements, "Il Mattutino di Santa Chiara" (The Matins of St. Clare) and "San Gregorio Magno" (St. Gregory the Great), continue to explore the sacred and the sublime.

Next, the album transports you to Brazil with "Impressioni brasiliane" (Brazilian Impressions). This suite of three pieces captures the essence of Brazilian landscapes and culture. "Notte tropicale" (Tropical Night) evokes the lush, exotic nightlife, while "Butantan" depicts the eerie beauty of a Brazilian snake farm. The suite concludes with the lively "Canzone e Danza" (Song and Dance), a celebration of Brazilian rhythm and melody.

The album concludes with "Rossiniana," Respighi's brilliant orchestration of piano 'trifles' by Rossini. This suite is a delightful exploration of Rossini's musical genius, culminating in the energetic "Tarantella." The album is performed by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the skilled direction of JoAnn Falletta, with Respighi's compositions brought to life with clarity and passion. With a total duration of 1 hour and 5 minutes, this album is a testament to Respighi's enduring legacy and a treasure trove of musical delights.
