      Album Details

Dive into the early brilliance of Ottorino Respighi with this captivating album, "Respighi: The Young Genius." Released in 2017, this collection showcases the Italian composer's formidable talent through a selection of his early works, performed with exquisite skill by Antonio Pompa-Baldi on the piano, accompanied by the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Alfred Savia.

The album opens with Respighi's Piano Concerto in A Minor, P. 40, a live performance that captures the raw energy and virtuosity of the young composer. The concerto's three movements—Moderato, Adagio molto, and Presto—demonstrate Respighi's mastery of form and his ability to evoke a range of moods, from introspective to exhilarating.

Following the concerto, the album presents the Piano Sonata in F Minor, P. 16, a work that reveals Respighi's deep understanding of the piano's expressive capabilities. The sonata's three movements—Allegro, Lento, and Allegretto—offer a journey through the composer's early stylistic development.

The album concludes with a selection from Respighi's Six Pieces for Piano, P. 44, including the enchanting "Valse caressante." These pieces provide a glimpse into Respighi's more intimate, lyrical side, showcasing his ability to craft beautiful, evocative melodies.

With a total duration of 44 minutes, this album is a concise yet comprehensive introduction to Respighi's early genius. The performances by Pompa-Baldi and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra are nothing short of outstanding, bringing Respighi's music to life with clarity, passion, and technical brilliance. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Respighi's work, this album is sure to leave you impressed and eager to explore more of his compositions.
