      Album Details

Dive into the vibrant world of Ottorino Respighi with this captivating album, "Respighi: Impressioni brasiliane & La Boutique fantasque." Released in 2014, this album showcases Respighi's mastery of orchestration and his unique ability to blend colors and textures in his compositions. The album features two of Respighi's most celebrated works: "Impressioni brasiliane," a suite inspired by the composer's visit to Brazil, and "La Boutique fantasque," a ballet based on themes from Gioachino Rossini's operas.

"Impressioni brasiliane" transports listeners to the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Brazil. The suite is divided into three movements: "Notte tropicale," "Butantan," and "Canzona e danza," each offering a distinct musical portrait of the country. From the sultry nights of the tropics to the lively rhythms of Brazilian dance, Respighi's impressions are vivid and evocative.

"La Boutique fantasque," on the other hand, is a whimsical and playful ballet that showcases Respighi's skill in orchestration. The ballet is based on themes from Rossini's operas and is divided into eight movements, each offering a unique musical character. From the lively "Tarantella" to the elegant "Valse lente," the ballet is a delightful journey through a fantastical toy shop.

The album features the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, conducted by John Neschling, who brings out the rich colors and textures of Respighi's compositions. The performances are dynamic and expressive, capturing the unique character of each piece.

With a duration of 1 hour and 8 minutes, this album is a perfect introduction to Respighi's music for those new to his work, as well as a delightful addition to the collection of those already familiar with his compositions. The album is released on the BIS label, known for its high-quality recordings and commitment to classical music.
