      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, romantic soundscapes of Carl Reinecke with this captivating album, released on April 1, 2007, by CPO. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 13 minutes, this collection showcases Reinecke's mastery of symphonic and concerto forms, offering a delightful journey through his musical prowess.

The album opens with Reinecke's Symphony No. 1 in A Major, Op. 79, a four-movement work that exudes charm and elegance, composed between 1856 and 1863. Following this, the Violin Concerto in G Minor, Op. 141, composed in 1876, takes center stage. This three-movement concerto is a testament to Reinecke's ability to blend technical brilliance with lyrical beauty, featuring the virtuoso Ingolf Turban as the soloist.

Complementing these larger works are two enchanting romances: the Romance for Violin & Orchestra in A Minor, Op. 155, and the Romance from "King Manfred," Op. 93, serving as a prelude to Act IV. These shorter pieces provide a delightful contrast, showcasing Reinecke's knack for melodic invention and emotional expressiveness.

Performed by the Berner Symphonieorchester under the direction of Johannes Moesus, this album offers a compelling exploration of Reinecke's orchestral and concerto repertoire. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer eager to discover the delights of Reinecke's music, this album promises an engaging and rewarding listening experience.

      About Carl Reinecke

Carl Heinrich Carsten Reinecke, born in the Danish-ruled Altona in 1824, was a multifaceted musical genius of the mid-Romantic era, excelling as a composer, conductor, and pianist. His musical journey began under the tutelage of his father, and by the age of twelve, he was already composing and performing publicly. Reinecke's career spanned over five decades, during which he left an indelible mark on the musical landscape of Leipzig, where he served as the Gewandhauskapellmeister and a professor at the Leipzig Conservatory. His influence extended to generations of musicians, including notable figures like Gustav Mahler. Reinecke's compositions, numbering over 300, encompass a wide range of genres, from symphonies and concertos to chamber music and songs, showcasing his versatility and profound musical understanding. His works, such as the Symphony No. 1, the Flute Concerto, and the Harp Concerto, continue to captivate audiences with their lyrical beauty and technical brilliance. Reinecke's legacy endures not only through his compositions but also through his pedagogical contributions and his enduring friendships with musical luminaries like Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms.
