      Album Details

Dive into the captivating world of Aribert Reimann's "Melusine," a profound and intricate opera that showcases the composer's mastery of musical storytelling. Originally composed for the Schwetzingen Festival and premiered in 1971, this recording, released in 2010 by Wergo, brings Reimann's second opera to life with stunning clarity and depth. Based on the drama by French-German poet Yvan Goll and adapted into a libretto by Claus Henneberg, "Melusine" is a four-act journey that unfolds over 17 tracks, spanning an immersive 1 hour and 36 minutes.

The opera is performed by the Nürnberger Philharmoniker, conducted by Gabriele May, delivering a powerful and nuanced interpretation of Reimann's complex score. Each act is meticulously crafted, with interludes that provide moments of reflection and anticipation. The narrative, rich with drama and intrigue, is brought to life through Reimann's distinctive compositional style, which blends modernist techniques with a deep understanding of theatrical expression.

This album is a testament to Reimann's ability to create music that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant. The detailed and expressive performances by the Nürnberger Philharmoniker and the cast bring the story of Melusine to life, making this a compelling addition to any classical music collection. Whether you are a seasoned opera enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Melusine" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that highlights the enduring power of Reimann's music.
