      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the intricate and captivating world of Anton Reicha with his Wind Quintets, Op. 88, No. 2 and Op. 110, No. 5. This album, released on March 14, 1995, under the Naxos label, offers a rich and diverse exploration of Reicha's compositional genius, spanning a total duration of 1 hour and 8 minutes.

Anton Reicha, a Czech composer and close associate of Ludwig van Beethoven, was known for his innovative and experimental approach to music. His wind quintets, in particular, showcase his mastery of form, harmony, and melody, as well as his unique ability to blend the diverse timbres of the wind instruments.

The album features two complete wind quintets, each consisting of four movements. The Wind Quintet in E-Flat Major, Op. 88, No. 2, opens with a slow and contemplative Lento, which gradually transitions into a lively Allegro moderato. The second movement, a Menuetto, is marked by its playful and energetic character, while the third movement, a Poco Andante - Grazioso, offers a moment of introspection and lyricism. The finale, an Allegretto, brings the quintet to a close with a spirited and engaging conclusion.

The Wind Quintet in A Minor, Op. 110, No. 5, begins with a dramatic and intense Lento, which gives way to an Allegro of great rhythmic vitality. The second movement, an Andante con variazioni, is a set of variations that showcases Reicha's contrapuntal skill and inventive melodic ideas. The third movement, a Minuetto, is characterized by its graceful and elegant dance-like quality, while the final movement, an Allegro, is a tour de force of technical virtuosity and expressive depth.

This album is a testament to Reicha's enduring legacy and his significant contributions to the wind quintet repertoire. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire you with its beauty, complexity, and innovation.
