      About Mike Melillo

Mike Melillo is a captivating American jazz pianist and composer, born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1939. With a musical lineage—his father was a double bass player—Melillo began playing the piano at the tender age of five, though he later took a break from formal lessons. His career has seen him collaborate with jazz greats such as Sonny Rollins, Harry Leahey, and Phil Woods, showcasing his prowess in hard bop and bebop genres. Despite relocating to Italy, which has somewhat limited his recognition in the jazz world, Melillo's talent shines through in his compositions and performances. His 1986 vinyl release, "Symphonically," is a testament to his musical depth and innovation. Melillo's work is a journey through the rich tapestry of jazz, offering listeners a blend of technical skill and emotional resonance.
