      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical chamber music with the renowned Quartetto Italiano in their 2005 album, "Quartetto Italiano Plays Schubert, Debussy & Milhaud." This exquisite collection showcases the ensemble's masterful interpretation of works by three iconic composers, spanning a rich tapestry of styles and periods.

The album opens with Franz Schubert's Quartet in B-Flat Major, D. 112, a work that exemplifies the composer's lyrical genius and emotional depth. The Quartetto Italiano brings out the nuances of Schubert's writing, from the gentle, flowing Allegro ma non troppo to the lively Presto finale.

Next, the ensemble delves into Claude Debussy's Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10, L. 85, a piece that blends the composer's distinctive impressionistic style with the classical string quartet form. The Quartetto Italiano's performance is marked by its sensitivity to Debussy's harmonic language and subtle tonal colors.

The album concludes with Darius Milhaud's Quartet No. 12, a work that reflects the composer's neoclassical influences and rhythmic vitality. The Quartetto Italiano's rendition is characterized by its precision and energy, capturing the essence of Milhaud's innovative spirit.

With a total duration of over two hours, this album offers a comprehensive exploration of the string quartet repertoire, showcasing the Quartetto Italiano's technical prowess and artistic insight. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.

      About Quartetto Italiano

The Quartetto Italiano, founded in 1945 in Reggio Emilia, Italy, stands as one of the most celebrated string quartets of the 20th century. Comprising Paolo Borciani, Elisa Pegreffi, Lionello Forzanti (later replaced by Piero Farulli in 1947), and Franco Rossi, the quartet began their illustrious career with a debut in Carpi when all members were in their early 20s. Initially named Nuovo Quartetto Italiano, they dropped the "Nuovo" in 1951 to become the iconic Quartetto Italiano. Renowned for their technical brilliance and emotional depth, the quartet recorded the complete cycles of Beethoven, Mozart, and Debussy string quartets, earning them global acclaim. Their performances, characterized by an aristocratic elegance and impeccable taste, captivated audiences worldwide until their disbandment in 1980. The Quartetto Italiano's legacy endures through their timeless recordings, which continue to inspire and enchant classical music enthusiasts.
