      Album Details

Ilya Gringolts delivers a captivating performance in this 2004 release, showcasing his virtuosity with two iconic violin concertos and a set of charming humoresques. The album opens with Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D, Op. 19, a work that blends Russian folk influences with modernist harmonies, demonstrating Gringolts' technical prowess and expressive depth. The second half of the album features Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47, a profound and introspective piece that highlights Gringolts' ability to convey deep emotion and nuance. Interspersed between these concertos are Sibelius' Six Humoresques for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 89, playful and whimsical pieces that offer a delightful contrast to the more serious concertos. Accompanied by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Neeme Järvi, Gringolts' performance is both powerful and precise, making this album a standout in the classical music repertoire. With a total runtime of just under an hour and ten minutes, this album is a testament to Gringolts' artistry and a must-listen for any classical music enthusiast.
