      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the golden tones of Maurice André, one of the most celebrated trumpet players of the 20th century, with this exquisite collection of concertos. "Portrait: Maurice André" is a testament to his virtuosity and artistry, featuring a stunning array of baroque and classical pieces that showcase his unparalleled mastery of the trumpet.

Recorded in 2008, just before his final retirement, this album captures Maurice André at the pinnacle of his career. The tracklist spans a variety of composers and styles, from the elegant melodies of Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E Flat to the lively rhythms of Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Trumpets. Each piece is performed with André's signature brilliance and technical prowess, making this album a true celebration of his musical legacy.

The album opens with Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E Flat, a work that highlights André's ability to blend technical skill with expressive playing. The concerto's three movements—Allegro, Andante, and Allegro—demonstrate André's dynamic range and his deep understanding of the baroque style. Following this, the album features a selection of concertos by Handel, Vivaldi, and Torelli, each offering a unique glimpse into André's versatility as a performer.

One of the standout pieces on the album is the Oboe Concerto No.3 in G minor by Handel, which André performs on the trumpet. This arrangement showcases his ability to adapt to different instruments and styles, adding a fresh perspective to a beloved classical work. The concerto's four movements—Grave, Allegro, Sarabande: Largo, and Allegro—are performed with André's characteristic flair and precision.

"Portrait: Maurice André" is not just a collection of concertos; it's a journey through the world of classical music, guided by one of its most beloved artists. Whether you're a longtime fan of Maurice André or discovering his music for the first time, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
