      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical piano mastery with Pnina Salzman's "Vol. 3," a remarkable album released in 2014 under the DOREMI label. This two-and-a-half-hour journey through timeless compositions showcases Salzman's extraordinary talent and versatility, featuring a diverse range of works from renowned composers.

The album opens with Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3, a piece known for its intricate rhythms and dynamic contrasts, followed by Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Egyptian," which is celebrated for its exotic influences and lyrical beauty. Salzman's interpretation of these concertos is nothing short of breathtaking, demonstrating her technical prowess and deep musical sensitivity.

In addition to these concertos, the album includes Salzman's rendition of the Piano Concerto by the Israeli composer Paul Ben-Haim, a piece that blends Mediterranean influences with classical forms. The album also features Chopin's Andante spianato et Grande polonaise brillante, a work that highlights Salzman's ability to convey both delicacy and power.

The final piece on the album is Vincent d'Indy's Symphonie sur un chant montagnard français, a symphonic work that draws on French folk melodies. Salzman's performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Paul Paray, is a testament to her ability to collaborate with other musicians to create a cohesive and compelling musical experience.

Throughout the album, Salzman's playing is characterized by a remarkable clarity of tone, a keen sense of phrasing, and a deep understanding of the musical structures. Whether she is playing a delicate nocturne or a thunderous concerto, her playing is always expressive and engaging.

"Vol. 3" is not just a collection of piano pieces; it is a testament to Pnina Salzman's artistry and her ability to bring out the best in the music she plays. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire you.

      About Pnina Salzman

Pnina Salzman, the revered "First Lady of the Piano" in Israel, was a virtuoso pianist and dedicated pedagogue whose life was a symphony of melody and education. Born in Tel Aviv in 1922, her prodigious talent was evident from a young age, leading her to study in Paris under the tutelage of Alfred Cortot. By 12, she had graduated from the Ecole Normale de Musique, and by her teens, she was conquering concert stages across Europe and Asia. Salzman's performances were not just musical events but journeys into the heart of the compositions, particularly her renowned renditions of Chopin. Beyond her solo performances, she was an enthusiastic chamber music performer, collaborating with distinguished groups like the Amadeus String Quartet. Salzman's commitment to her homeland was profound; she performed extensively in educational institutions, kibbutzim, and for soldiers, supporting the country's security and charities. As a professor at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv University, she nurtured generations of pianists, many of whom won international prizes. Her legacy endures not just in her recordings but in the countless lives she touched through her music and teaching.
