      Album Details

Experience the timeless allure of opera with Franz Lehár's "Paganini," a captivating album that brings to life the legendary violinist's story through a blend of drama and romance. Originally premiered in 1925, this operetta in three acts has been beautifully recorded and released on October 6, 2023, by SUPRAPHON a.s. The album features a stellar cast, including the Prague Smetana Theatre Orchestra and renowned singers Antonín Kincl and Ivan Kawaciuk, who bring depth and passion to each performance.

"Paganini" is a journey through the life of the enigmatic violinist, Niccolò Paganini, as he navigates love, fame, and the mysteries of his past. The album opens with the "Introduction," setting the stage for a series of operatic highlights that showcase Lehár's mastery of melody and orchestration. Standout tracks include "Ohnivá jak plamen je krev má" and "Můžeš mi dnes říct," where the vocalists' powerful performances are complemented by the orchestra's rich, evocative sound.

The album's duration of 31 minutes is a testament to Lehár's ability to craft compelling narratives within a concise format. Each track is a gem, from the tender duets to the lively ensemble pieces, all of which highlight the operetta's rich libretto by Paul Knepler and Bela Jenbach. Whether you're a seasoned opera enthusiast or new to the genre, "Paganini" offers a delightful introduction to the world of Franz Lehár and his enduring musical legacy.

      About Franz Lehár

Franz Lehár, born in 1870 in Komárno, Kingdom of Hungary (now Slovakia), was a renowned Austro-Hungarian composer who left an indelible mark on the world of operetta. Throughout his illustrious career spanning over five decades, Lehár enchanted audiences with his lighthearted and comic works, becoming one of the most significant composers of operetta in classical music history. His most celebrated creation, "The Merry Widow" (Die lustige Witwe), achieved global acclaim and remains his most famous piece. Lehár's compositions are celebrated for their fine craftsmanship and enduring charm. Despite initial aspirations towards grand opera, it was his operettas that secured his legacy, making him the leading composer of operettas in the 20th century. Lehár passed away in Bad Ischl in 1948, leaving behind a substantial body of work that continues to captivate and inspire.
