Dive into the enchanting world of 19th-century chamber music with Dimitri Ashkenazy's captivating album, "Ottocento." This exquisite collection, released on January 3, 2018, under the VDE-GALLO label, is a testament to Ashkenazy's virtuosity and his deep connection with the romantic era's musical language.

The album spans a diverse range of compositions, each showcasing the unique voices of their respective creators. The journey begins with Carl Scheidler's Sonata in D Major, Op. 21, a piece that exudes classical elegance and warmth. Ashkenazy's interpretation brings out the sonata's lyrical qualities, making it a standout track.

The album then transitions into the dreamy world of Burgmüller's 3 Nocturnes, where Ashkenazy's delicate touch and nuanced phrasing shine. The variations by Vanhal, Op. 42, follow, offering a delightful interplay of themes and moods.

Küffner's Serenade in C Major, Op. 44, adds a touch of charm and wit, while Krähmer's Introduction & Variations, Op. 32, provide a thrilling conclusion to the album. Ashkenazy's technical prowess and expressive depth are on full display in these variations, making them a highlight of the collection.

Throughout the album, Ashkenazy's collaboration with Jean-Paul Greub adds an extra layer of richness to the performances. Their shared musical understanding and chemistry are evident in every note, making "Ottocento" a truly memorable listening experience. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
