      Album Details

"One On One" is a captivating jazz album that brings together two legendary musicians, Stéphane Grappelli and McCoy Tyner, in a unique instrumental collaboration. Released in 1990 under the Milestone label, this album is a testament to the timeless appeal of jazz, swing, and French jazz genres.

The album features ten instrumental tracks, each a masterclass in musical dialogue between Grappelli's violin and Tyner's piano. From the opening notes of "How High The Moon" to the final strains of "I Got Rhythm," the album showcases the incredible chemistry between the two artists. Grappelli, known for his virtuosic violin playing, and Tyner, renowned for his innovative piano work, create a sound that is both intimate and expansive.

Recorded at BMG Studio "B" in New York City in April 1990, the album benefits from state-of-the-art recording techniques, including direct-to-digital recording and digital tape mastering. This ensures that every nuance of the performance is captured, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the subtleties of the musicians' interplay.

The tracklist includes a mix of jazz standards and lesser-known gems, all reimagined through the lens of Grappelli and Tyner's unique partnership. Highlights include "St. Louis Blues," "Summertime," and "Satin Doll," each track offering a different facet of the duo's musical conversation.

With a duration of just over 43 minutes, "One On One" is a concise yet powerful exploration of jazz duets. The album is a celebration of two master musicians coming together to create something truly special, making it a standout release in the careers of both Stéphane Grappelli and McCoy Tyner.
