      About Frank Wess

      Frank Wess, born in Kansas City, Missouri, was a titan of jazz, renowned for his virtuosity on both saxophone and flute. His career spanned an impressive seven decades, with a significant portion dedicated to his role as a key member of the Count Basie Orchestra. Wess was one of the first major jazz flutists, bringing a unique and melodic voice to the instrument. His tenor saxophone playing was deeply influenced by the legendary Lester Young, while his alto saxophone work was equally impressive. Beyond his instrumental prowess, Wess was also a skilled composer and arranger, contributing to the rich tapestry of jazz music.
