      About Agnes Buen Garnås

      Agnes Buen Garnås, born into a renowned musical family in the heart of Telemark, Norway, was a captivating folk singer whose voice carried the rich traditions of her homeland. Born on 23 October 1946 in Jondalen, she was the daughter of Anders Buen and sister to the esteemed musicians Knut Buen and Hauk Buen. Her own son, Per Anders Buen Garnås, also followed in the family's musical footsteps. Agnes Buen Garnås was known for her unique interpretations of old Norwegian folk songs, collaborating with the legendary saxophonist Jan Garbarek on an album that blended traditional melodies with modern instrumentation. Her work, recorded with ECM Records, showcased her ability to weave together the old and the new, creating a sound that was both timeless and innovative. Her passing on 12 November 2024 left a void in the world of folk music, but her legacy endures through her enchanting recordings.
