      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical guitar with Narciso Yepes' "Nachte In Spanischen Garten," released in 1971 under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. This captivating album spans a little over an hour, offering a rich tapestry of compositions that showcase Yepes' virtuosity and deep connection to Spanish musical traditions.

The album opens with the iconic "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," a piece that has become synonymous with the guitar repertoire, followed by a selection of works by Bach, including the Suite in E Minor for Lute, BWV 996, beautifully arranged for guitar. Yepes' interpretations bring a fresh perspective to these timeless pieces, highlighting his technical prowess and musical sensitivity.

The collection also features works by Spanish composers such as Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, and Francisco Tárrega, whose compositions are staples of the classical guitar canon. Yepes' renditions of pieces like "Asturias (Leyenda)" and "Malagueña" are particularly noteworthy, showcasing his ability to convey the essence of Spanish music with passion and precision.

In addition to these well-known works, the album includes lesser-known gems like "Recuerdos de Viaje" and "Piezas caracteristicas," arranged for guitar by Yepes himself. Throughout the album, Yepes' playing is characterized by its clarity, expressiveness, and impeccable technique. His interpretations are both respectful of the composers' intentions and infused with his own artistic vision, making this album a testament to his enduring legacy as one of the greatest guitarists of the 20th century.

Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Nachte In Spanischen Garten" offers a rewarding listening experience that celebrates the beauty and diversity of Spanish classical guitar music.

      About Narciso Yepes

Narciso Yepes, born in 1927 in Lorca, Spain, was a virtuoso classical guitarist whose name is synonymous with mastery and innovation. Often ranked second only to Andrés Segovia, Yepes' career was marked by his exceptional technique and his invention of the ten-string guitar, which he premiered with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1964. His rendition of Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" became legendary, earning him international acclaim and a devoted following. Beyond his performances, Yepes was a scholar who rediscovered and transcribed numerous works, including lute pieces by Bach. His influence extended to film soundtracks, and in the 1980s, he formed the Trio Yepes with his children, blending music and dance. Yepes' legacy endures as one of the most outstanding guitarists in classical music history, celebrated for his artistry and contributions to the instrument's repertoire.
