      Album Details

Elizabeth Wallfisch, a renowned violinist known for her expressive and dynamic performances, presents a captivating collection of violin concertos with her album "Mysliveček, Viotti & Spohr: Violin Concertos." Released on May 1, 1996, under the Hyperion label, this album is a testament to Wallfisch's virtuosity and her deep understanding of classical and chamber music.

The album features a diverse selection of works by three prominent composers: Josef Mysliveček, Giovanni Battista Viotti, and Ludwig Spohr. The tracklist includes three complete violin concertos, each showcasing the unique styles and innovations of the respective composers. Mysliveček's Concerto No. 4 in B-Flat Major is a lively and spirited piece, while Viotti's Concerto No. 22 in A Minor is known for its technical demands and emotional depth. Spohr's Concerto No. 8 in A Minor, Op. 47, also known as "In modo di scena cantante," is a dramatic and expressive work that highlights the violin's lyrical capabilities.

In addition to the concertos, the album also includes a Rondo for Violin and Strings in A Minor by Franz Schubert, adding a touch of romanticism to the collection. The Brandenburg Orchestra, conducted by Roy Goodman, provides excellent support, bringing out the rich textures and nuances of the music.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 18 minutes, this album offers a comprehensive exploration of the violin concerto genre, showcasing the evolution of the form and the individual contributions of each composer. Elizabeth Wallfisch's impeccable technique and musical sensitivity make this album a standout in her discography and a must-listen for any classical music enthusiast.
