      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Russian classical music with David Zinman and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra's captivating album, "Myaskovsky, Kabalevsky and Shostakovich." Released on March 19, 2015, under the Treasure Island label, this collection showcases the profound compositions of three eminent Russian composers, offering a diverse and engaging exploration of their symphonic and orchestral works.

The album begins with Nikolai Myaskovsky's Symphony No. 21 Op. 51, a powerful and evocative piece that sets the stage for the journey ahead. Following this, the album delves into Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Op. 19, a work that exemplifies the composer's distinctive style and emotional depth. The symphony is presented in its entirety, with each movement—Allegro Quasi Presto, Andante Non Troppo, and Prestissimo Scherzando—highlighting the orchestra's virtuosity and Zinman's masterful direction.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Dmitri Kabalevsky's incidental music for "Hamlet," Op. 116a. This suite, inspired by Shakespeare's timeless tragedy, includes eight movements that vividly depict key scenes and emotions from the play. From the haunting introduction to the dramatic "Duel And Death Of Hamlet," Kabalevsky's music offers a rich and immersive experience that brings the story to life.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 2 minutes, this album is a testament to the enduring power of classical music and the exceptional artistry of David Zinman and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Whether you are a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this collection promises a rewarding and enriching listening experience.
