      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Lord Berners with "Music of England, Vol. 2," a captivating collection of compositions that showcase the versatility and brilliance of this British polymath. Released on June 24, 2013, under the Editions Audiovisuel Beulah label, this album spans a generous 1 hour and 18 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of musical experiences.

The centerpiece of the album is "The Triumph of Neptune Suite," a nine-movement orchestral work that transports you to a realm of mythical grandeur and whimsy. Each movement, from the playful "Harlequinade" to the majestic "Apotheosis of Neptune," is a testament to Berners' unique ability to blend classical elegance with a touch of modernist flair. The suite is performed by the esteemed Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by the legendary Sir Thomas Beecham, ensuring a performance that is both technically impeccable and deeply expressive.

Beyond the Neptune suite, the album also includes the delightful "Punch and the Child, Op.49" and the charming "Fifine At the Fair," further showcasing Berners' knack for creating music that is both engaging and evocative. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Music of England, Vol. 2" offers a rewarding listening experience that highlights the enduring appeal of Lord Berners' musical legacy.

      About Lord Berners

Lord Berners, born Gerald Hugh Tyrwhitt-Wilson, was a multifaceted British artist who left an indelible mark as a composer, novelist, painter, and aesthete. Born into aristocracy as the 14th Baron Berners, he inherited his title in 1918 and embraced a life of creativity and eccentricity. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle, Berners was immortalized as Lord Merlin in Nancy Mitford's novels, earning the moniker "The Last Eccentric." His compositions, though amateur, are remembered for their unique and strange charm. Beyond music, Berners was a prolific writer and painter, capturing the essence of his vibrant life and the people who surrounded him, including his lover, Robert Heber-Percy, affectionately known as the "Mad Boy." His works offer a glimpse into a world of opulence, intrigue, and artistic brilliance.
