      Album Details

"Rainbow: Music of Central Asia Vol. 8" is a captivating collaboration between the renowned Kronos Quartet and esteemed musicians from Central Asia, released on March 30, 2010, under Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. This album is a fusion of minimalism and avant-garde genres, spanning a duration of 1 hour and 5 minutes.

The album is divided into two distinct sets. The first set features the Kronos Quartet alongside Homayun Sakhi, a masterful rubâb player from Afghanistan. Sakhi's composition for string quartet, rubâb, and percussion offers a unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. The second set showcases the collaboration with Azerbaijani vocalists Alim Qasimov and his daughter Fargana Qasimova, presenting arrangements of popular mugham songs.

The tracklist includes enchanting pieces such as "Rangin Kaman," "Köhlen Atim," "Mehriban Olaq," "Getme, Getme," "Leyla," and "Qashlarin Kamandir." Each track is a testament to the rich musical heritage of Central Asia, reimagined through the innovative lens of the Kronos Quartet.

Included with the album is a bonus DVD that provides an intimate look into the creative process behind this extraordinary collaboration. It offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Kronos Quartet working with Alim Qasimov and his ensemble, adding a layer of depth to the listening experience.

"Rainbow: Music of Central Asia Vol. 8" is not just an album; it's a journey through the vibrant musical landscapes of Central Asia, brought to life by the virtuosity of the Kronos Quartet and their esteemed collaborators.
