      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of Hindustani classical music with "More Flowers from India," a captivating album by the legendary Ravi Shankar. Released in 2008, this collection is a testament to Shankar's mastery of the sitar and his deep understanding of Indian classical traditions. The album spans a generous 80 minutes, featuring nine exquisite ragas that showcase the rich tapestry of Indian music.

"More Flowers from India" begins with the serene "Raga Ahir Bhairav," setting a contemplative tone that carries through to the more dynamic "Raga Simhendra Madhyamam." Each track is a journey in itself, from the introspective "Raga Sindi Bhairavi" to the lively "Raga Bhimpalasi." The album also includes the evocative "Pather Panchali," a piece that highlights Shankar's ability to convey deep narratives through his music.

The collaboration with Ali Akbar Khan adds another layer of depth, with Khan's sarod complementing Shankar's sitar beautifully. The album was released under the El Records label and is a compilation of recordings made at least a decade before the psychedelic era, offering a pure and authentic experience of traditional Indian music.

Whether you are a seasoned fan of classical Indian music or a newcomer looking to explore its depths, "More Flowers from India" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience. The album's intricate compositions and masterful performances make it a standout in Ravi Shankar's extensive discography.

      About Ravi Shankar

Ravi Shankar, born Robindra Shankar Chowdhury, was a titan of Indian classical music, renowned globally for his mastery of the sitar. Born in Varanasi, India, in 1920, Shankar's journey began at the tender age of 10, performing with his family's dance troupe across Europe and the U.S. His virtuosity and compositions, including several original ragas, captivated audiences worldwide, making him the most famous ambassador of Indian classical music in the West during the latter half of the 20th century. Shankar's influence extended beyond his performances, inspiring countless musicians, including those from the Beatles, with whom he collaborated. His compositions for films like "Gandhi" further cemented his legacy. Beyond his musical prowess, Shankar was a dedicated teacher, nurturing a new generation of musicians. His personal life included his daughters, the acclaimed singer Norah Jones and sitar player Anoushka Shankar, both of whom carry forward his musical heritage. Shankar's contributions earned him India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, in 1999, and his impact on global music remains unparalleled.
