      About Francisco de Peñalosa

      Francisco de Peñalosa, born around 1470 in Talavera de la Reina, near Madrid, was a prominent Spanish composer of the mid-Renaissance period. Often hailed as the Spanish counterpart to the renowned Josquin des Prez, Peñalosa's music is celebrated for its intricate polyphony and emotional depth. He began his musical career in the Aragonese chapel in 1498, serving until the death of King Ferdinand in 1516, after which he joined the papal chapel. His compositions, including motets and masses, are known for their technical mastery and expressive power, making him a key figure in the development of Renaissance music.
