      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Felix Mendelssohn with this remarkable album, released on August 25, 2017, under the harmonia mundi label. This collection showcases Mendelssohn's extraordinary prowess in chamber music, classical compositions, and choral works, all within a concise yet impactful duration of 1 hour and 1 minute.

The album opens with Mendelssohn's renowned Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, featuring the exhilarating first movement, "Allegro molto appassionato," and the lively third movement, "Allegretto non troppo - Allegro molto vivace." These pieces are followed by the evocative "The Hebrides, Op. 26, MWV P7," a testament to Mendelssohn's ability to capture the essence of nature in his music.

The centerpiece of the album is the Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, Op. 107, MWV N15, also known as the "Reformation" Symphony. This four-movement masterpiece begins with the "Andante (Allegro con fuoco)" and continues with the energetic "Allegro vivace," the contemplative "Andante," and the powerful choral finale, "Choral 'Ein fest Burg' (Andante con moto - Allegro vivace - Allegro maestoso)." The Reformation Symphony is celebrated for its autumnal hues and originality, as noted by critics, making it a standout piece in Mendelssohn's repertoire.

Performances by Isabelle Faust and the Freiburger Barockorchester bring these compositions to life, offering a fresh and dynamic interpretation of Mendelssohn's works. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album provides a rich and rewarding listening experience, highlighting the timeless beauty and innovation of Felix Mendelssohn's music.
