      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Felix Mendelssohn's "Mendelssohn Violin Concerto & Lalo Symphonie Espagnole." This captivating album, released in 2000 under the Maestoso label, showcases the brilliance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, and Édouard Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole in D Minor, Op. 21. The album spans a concise yet impactful 55 minutes, featuring performances that highlight the depth and virtuosity of these renowned compositions.

The Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, is a cornerstone of the violin repertoire, known for its lyrical beauty and technical demands. Mendelssohn's masterful orchestration and melodic invention are evident in each of the three movements: the impassioned Allegro molto appassionata, the serene Andante, and the lively Allegretto non troppo - Allegro molto vivace. The Symphonie Espagnole, Op. 21, by Édouard Lalo, complements the Mendelssohn concerto with its vibrant Spanish influences and intricate violin writing. The five movements, including the Allegro non troppo, Scherzando, Andante, and the spirited Rondo - Allegro, offer a rich tapestry of sounds and emotions.

This album brings together the talents of some of the most celebrated musicians in the classical world. Performances by renowned violinists and orchestras, such as Joshua Bell and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, add a layer of artistry and precision that elevates these works to new heights. Whether you are a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a treasure trove of musical brilliance that will captivate and inspire.

      About Felix Mendelssohn

Felix Mendelssohn, born into a wealthy banking family in Hamburg in 1809, was a prodigious talent whose influence on the Romantic period is immeasurable. A child prodigy, Mendelssohn excelled not only in music but also in painting, poetry, athletics, and linguistics. His compositions, which include symphonies, concertos, and chamber music, are renowned for their optimism and life-enhancing qualities, earning him the title of one of the 'Sunshine Composers.'

Mendelssohn's repertoire is vast and varied, with standout works including the enchanting overture and incidental music for "A Midsummer Night's Dream," the evocative "Italian" and "Scottish" Symphonies, and the beloved oratorios "St. Paul" and "Elijah."
