      Album Details

"Mazurkas y Sardanas" is a captivating journey through the world of classical guitar, performed by the renowned Italian guitarist Stefano Grondona. Released in December 2014 under the Stradivarius label, this album is a testament to Grondona's virtuosity and his deep connection with the music of Alexandre Tansman and Gaspar Cassadó. The 22-track album spans a duration of 57 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of compositions that showcase Grondona's technical prowess and artistic sensitivity.

The album opens with a suite of Mazurkas, each movement distinct in its tempo and character, from the moderate pace of the first to the lively Allegro giocoso of the fourth. Following this, Grondona presents a series of Variations sur un thème de Scriabine, demonstrating his ability to interpret and embellish a theme with nuance and flair. The Prelude and Interlude, Piece en forme de Passacaille, and various Catalan and Finnish folk-inspired pieces further highlight Grondona's versatility and his commitment to bringing these compositions to life with authenticity and passion.

Stefano Grondona, born in 1958, is celebrated for his contributions to the classical guitar repertoire. In 2002, he founded the guitar ensemble Nova Lira Orfeo XXI, carrying on the legacy of Lira Orfeo, a Barcelona music society founded by Miguel Llobet. Grondona's performances have been acclaimed worldwide, with his tours in Japan receiving particular admiration, comparable to the receptions of legendary guitarists like Andrés Segovia and Julian Bream. His discography is extensive, and "Mazurkas y Sardanas" stands out as a significant addition, earning the title of "Disco del mese" in the prestigious Amadeus magazine.

This album is a delight for both seasoned classical music enthusiasts and those new to the genre. Grondona's playing is precise, expressive, and full of warmth, making "Mazurkas y Sardanas" an essential addition to any classical guitar collection. Whether you are familiar with the works of Tansman and Cassadó or discovering them for the first time, this album offers a rewarding listening experience that underscores the beauty and depth of classical guitar music.
