      About Marguerite Long

Marguerite Long, born Marguerite Marie-Charlotte Long in Nîmes, France, in 1874, was a pioneering figure in the world of classical piano. Recognized as one of France's leading pianists for over half a century, Long's career began at a remarkably young age when she was discovered by Théodore Dubois at the Nîmes Conservatoire. Her playing style, characterized by exceptional finger independence, became emblematic of the quintessentially French approach to piano performance.

Beyond her virtuosity, Long was also a dedicated pedagogue and lecturer, sharing her extensive knowledge and passion for music with future generations. She co-founded the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in 1946, which remains one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world. Her legacy as an ambassador of French music endures, inspiring chamber music enthusiasts and pianists alike.
