      Album Details

Discover the enchanting world of classical music with Christopher Hogwood's 1989 album, a captivating blend of works by Alessandro Marcello and Antonio Vivaldi. This collection, released under Decca Music Group Ltd., showcases Hogwood's mastery as a conductor, accompanied by the esteemed Academy of Ancient Music and featuring stellar performances by soloists Emma Kirkby, Clare Shanks, and Michael Copley.

The album opens with Marcello's Oboe Concerto in D minor, a piece that highlights the expressive range of the oboe, expertly played by Clare Shanks. The concerto's three movements—Andante e spiccato, Adagio, and Presto—offer a journey through contrasting moods and tempos, showcasing the instrument's versatility.

Vivaldi's contributions to the album are equally compelling. The Flautino Concerto in C Major, RV 443, features the delicate and high-pitched flautino, played with precision by Michael Copley. The concerto's three movements—Allegro, Largo, and Allegro molto—demonstrate Vivaldi's signature rhythmic drive and melodic inventiveness.

The album also includes two cantatas by Vivaldi: "Amor Hai Vinto" RV 651 and "Nulla in mundo pax" RV 630. These vocal works, performed by the radiant Emma Kirkby, showcase Vivaldi's ability to blend text and music in a way that is both dramatic and deeply moving. The cantatas are complemented by the Trio Sonata in B minor, Op. 1/11, RV 79 "La Follia," a piece that exemplifies the Baroque era's contrapuntal complexity and harmonic richness.

With a total runtime of 54 minutes, this album is a concise yet comprehensive exploration of Baroque music, offering a blend of instrumental and vocal works that highlight the period's diversity and innovation. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Christopher Hogwood's interpretation of these timeless works is sure to captivate and inspire.
