      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Spanish Baroque organ music with the "Mallorca Edition Historische Orgeln," a stunning collection of works by Antonio Soler and other master composers. This six-disc set, released by Cybele Records, showcases the exquisite performances of organist Martin Schmeding on historic organs in Mallorca, Spain.

Antonio Soler, a prolific composer and contemporary of Domenico Scarlatti, takes center stage with fifteen sonatas and a captivating Fandango. His works, characterized by their intricate counterpoint and lively rhythms, are brought to life with remarkable virtuosity and sensitivity by Schmeding. The album also features sonatas by Scarlatti, as well as works by José Lidón, Sebastián Aguilera de Heredia, and Pablo Bruna, offering a comprehensive overview of Spanish organ music from the Baroque era.

Recorded in 2011 on five historic organs, this edition provides an unparalleled opportunity to experience the unique acoustics and tonal qualities of these instruments. The Jordi Bosch-Orgel in Santanyí, the Gabriel Thomàs-Orgel in Campos, and the Mateu Bosch-Orgel in Sencelles serve as the backdrop for these stunning performances, each contributing its own distinctive character to the overall sound.

The "Mallorca Edition Historische Orgeln" is a testament to the enduring beauty of Baroque organ music and the skill of its interpreters. With its meticulous production and insightful liner notes, this collection is an essential addition to any classical music enthusiast's library. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, this album promises to delight and inspire with its rich harmonies, intricate melodies, and masterful performances.

      About Antonio Soler

Antonio Soler, born Antonio Francisco Javier José Soler Ramos, was a prolific Spanish composer whose music bridges the late Baroque and early Classical periods. Known affectionately as Padre Antonio Soler, he was a man of the cloth and a maestro of the keyboard, leaving behind an impressive catalog of over 400 works. Soler's most celebrated compositions are his keyboard sonatas, which are essential to the harpsichord, fortepiano, and organ repertoires. His innovative approach to harmony and form makes his sonatas stand out, reflecting his studies with the renowned Domenico Scarlatti. Beyond his keyboard works, Soler's output includes concertos, masses, and a notable treatise on musical theory that explores the use of microtones. His influence extends to his role as a teacher to the royal family, cementing his place as a pivotal figure in Spanish music history.
