Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Spanish classical guitar music with Narciso Yepes' "Malaguena - Spanische Gitarrenmusik." Released in 1998 under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, this album is a testament to Yepes' virtuosity and his deep connection to his musical heritage. Spanning a little over an hour, the album is a collection of well-known and lesser-known pieces that showcase the diversity and depth of Spanish guitar music.

Yepes, renowned for his technical prowess and expressive playing, brings a unique interpretation to each piece. The album opens with the lively "Malagueña, Op. 165 No. 3," arranged by Yepes himself, setting the tone for the rest of the album. It includes iconic pieces like "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" and "Capricho árabe" by Francisco Tárrega, as well as works by Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albéniz, and Enrique Granados, among others. Yepes' arrangements of some of these pieces add a personal touch, making this album a unique addition to any classical music collection.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a captivating exploration of the Spanish guitar repertoire.

      About Narciso Yepes

Narciso Yepes, born in 1927 in Lorca, Spain, was a virtuoso classical guitarist whose name is synonymous with mastery and innovation. Often ranked second only to Andrés Segovia, Yepes' career was marked by his exceptional technique and his invention of the ten-string guitar, which he premiered with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1964. His rendition of Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" became legendary, earning him international acclaim and a devoted following. Beyond his performances, Yepes was a scholar who rediscovered and transcribed numerous works, including lute pieces by Bach. His influence extended to film soundtracks, and in the 1980s, he formed the Trio Yepes with his children, blending music and dance. Yepes' legacy endures as one of the most outstanding guitarists in classical music history, celebrated for his artistry and contributions to the instrument's repertoire.
