      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of German Romanticism with Carl Loewe's "Loewe: Lieder ; Frauenliebe, Op. 60". This captivating album, released on January 1, 1988, under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, showcases the extraordinary vocal prowess of Brigitte Fassbaender, accompanied by the delicate piano playing of Cord Garben.

Carl Loewe, a prolific German composer, tenor singer, and conductor, penned over 400 ballads and songs, and this album offers a carefully curated selection of his most evocative works. Unlike the "polite lieder" of his contemporaries like Schubert and Schumann, Loewe's songs are known for their raw emotional depth and narrative power.

The album begins with a collection of songs from "Gesammelte Lieder, Gesänge, Romanzen und Balladen, Op. 9," including the hauntingly beautiful "Meine Ruh ist hin" and the tender "Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt." These pieces showcase Loewe's ability to convey a wide range of human experiences, from longing and despair to joy and contentment.

The second half of the album is dedicated to "Frauenliebe, Op. 60," a cycle of songs that explore the nuances of a woman's love and life. From the initial spark of attraction in "Seit ich ihn gesehen" to the profound grief of "Nun hast du mir den ersten Schmerz getan," these songs offer a deeply moving journey through the complexities of the human heart.

With a duration of 53 minutes, this album is a testament to Loewe's enduring legacy and Fassbaender's exceptional artistry. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Loewe: Lieder ; Frauenliebe, Op. 60" is sure to leave a lasting impression.
