Live at the Village Vanguard Vol. 3 - Paul Motian

      Album Details

"Live at the Village Vanguard Vol. 3" is the final installment in Paul Motian's captivating live series, recorded at the iconic Village Vanguard in 2010. This album showcases the masterful drumming and compositional prowess of Paul Motian, a legendary figure in the world of jazz. With his Trio 2000 + Two, Motian delivers a mesmerizing set of performances that blend cool jazz and free jazz elements, creating a sound that is both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition.

The album features six tracks, each offering a unique glimpse into Motian's musical vision. From the hauntingly beautiful "And so to Sleep Again" to the energetic "Gang of 5," the album spans a wide range of moods and tempos, demonstrating Motian's versatility as a composer and performer. The absence of saxophonist Greg Osby, who was part of the previous volumes, allows for a more focused and intimate sound, highlighting the interplay between Motian, pianist Jason Moran, and bassist Larry Grenadier.

With a runtime of just under an hour, "Live at the Village Vanguard Vol. 3" is a testament to Paul Motian's enduring influence on the jazz world. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to his music, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
