      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical piano music with Julius Katchen's exquisite album, "Liszt: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 – Schubert: Fantasie in C Major, Op. 15, D. 760." Released on March 12, 2021, under the Jube Classic label, this album is a masterful blend of Franz Liszt's Piano Concertos and Franz Schubert's Fantasie in C Major, showcasing Katchen's virtuoso technique and profound musicality.

The album opens with Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major, S. 124, also known as the "Triangle," a piece that demands both technical prowess and emotional depth. Katchen's interpretation is nothing short of breathtaking, with each movement—from the majestic "Allegro maestoso" to the lively "Allegretto vivace"—revealing a new facet of his artistry. The concerto's final movement, "Allegro marziale animato," is particularly thrilling, showcasing Katchen's ability to balance power and precision.

The second half of the album features Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major, S. 125. This concerto is a journey through a range of emotions, from the serene "Adagio sostenuto assai" to the fiery "Allegro agitato assai." Katchen's playing is both sensitive and dynamic, capturing the essence of each movement with remarkable clarity and expressiveness.

The album concludes with Schubert's Fantasie in C Major, Op. 15, D. 760, also known as the "Wanderer." This four-movement work is a testament to Schubert's genius and Katchen's ability to convey the depth and complexity of the music. The "Allegro con fuoco, ma non troppo" and "Presto" movements are particularly noteworthy, demonstrating Katchen's technical brilliance and musical insight.

Throughout the album, Julius Katchen's playing is characterized by a rare combination of technical mastery and emotional resonance. His interpretations are both faithful to the score and infused with a personal touch, making this album a true gem for classical music enthusiasts. Whether you're a seasoned listener or new to classical piano music, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
