Liszt, Dohnányi & Kodály: Music for Cello & Piano - Raphael Wallfisch

      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of chamber music with Raphael Wallfisch's exquisite album, "Liszt, Dohnányi & Kodály: Music for Cello & Piano." Released in 2013 under Nimbus Records, this two-disc collection is a testament to Wallfisch's mastery of the cello, accompanied by the brilliant John York on the piano. Spanning a rich duration of two hours and five minutes, the album features a diverse range of compositions that showcase the depth and versatility of the cello and piano duo.

The album opens with Franz Liszt's evocative pieces, including the hauntingly beautiful "Première Élegié" and "Zweite Élegié," followed by the lesser-known "Romance oubliée." Wallfisch and York then delve into the works of Ernő Dohnányi, presenting the sonorous "Sonata in B-Flat Major, Op. 8" and the lively "Ruralia hungarica, Op. 32/d." The album concludes with Zoltán Kodály's enchanting "Sonata, Op. 4" and the serene "Sonatina, Adagio."

Each track is a masterclass in musical expression, with Wallfisch's virtuosic playing and York's nuanced accompaniment bringing these compositions to life. The album is a must-listen for classical music enthusiasts and those seeking to explore the rich tapestry of chamber music. Whether you're a seasoned listener or new to the genre, this album offers a profound and enriching experience that highlights the timeless beauty of these works.
