      About Brigitte Fassbaender

      Brigitte Fassbaender is a celebrated German mezzo-soprano, renowned for her powerful stage presence and dramatic impact in iconic roles such as Octavian in "Der Rosenkavalier" and Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus." Born in Berlin in 1939, Fassbaender's journey into music began under the tutelage of her father, the esteemed baritone Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender. Her career spanned from the early 1960s to the mid-1990s, during which she performed at prestigious venues including the Bayerische Staatsoper, Covent Garden, Salzburg Festival, and the Metropolitan Opera. Beyond her singing career, Fassbaender is also acclaimed for her work as a stage director and arts administrator, serving as the intendant of the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck from 1999 to 2012. Her contributions to opera extend beyond performance, as she has also made notable appearances in films and is known for her teaching and writing in the field of musical theatre.
