      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical piano with Leopold Koželuh's "Piano Sonatas, Op. 2 & 30." This album, released on January 1, 2014, under the Český rozhlas label, offers a rich collection of piano sonatas that showcase Koželuh's mastery and the elegance of the classical genre.

Spanning a duration of one hour and one minute, the album features a total of eight sonatas, each a testament to Koželuh's compositional skill. The sonatas are divided into two opus groups, Op. 2 and Op. 30, each containing four sonatas. The pieces range from the somber and introspective to the lively and spirited, providing a diverse listening experience that highlights the breadth of Koželuh's musical expression.

The album opens with the Sonata for Piano in C Minor, Op. 2, featuring two movements that set the stage for the emotional depth and technical brilliance that follow. The Sonata for Piano No. V in A Major, Op. 2 / No. 2, continues the journey with its Moderato and Andante movements, showcasing Koželuh's ability to blend melody and harmony in a way that is both engaging and satisfying.

The second half of the album, Op. 30, begins with the Sonata for Piano in B-Flat, featuring three movements that range from the energetic Allegro to the tender Poco adagio, culminating in a delightful Rondeau. The album concludes with the Sonata for Piano in G Major, Op. 30 / No. 2, a trio of movements that bring the collection to a close with a sense of completeness and fulfillment.

Leopold Koželuh, a contemporary of Mozart and Haydn, was a Czech composer and pianist whose works have often been overshadowed by his more famous peers. This album offers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty and sophistication of Koželuh's piano sonatas, performed with precision and passion. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to delight and inspire.
