      Album Details

Discover the captivating world of Leo Ornstein's chamber music with the album "Piano Quintet, String Quartet #3." Released in 1997 under the New World Records label, this collection showcases Ornstein's unique compositional style, blending early 20th-century modernism with a touch of his Russian heritage. The album features six tracks, divided into two main works: the Piano Quintet and the String Quartet No. 3. Each piece is performed with exquisite precision by pianist Janice Weber and the Lydian String Quartet, bringing Ornstein's intricate compositions to life.

The Piano Quintet, composed in three movements, offers a dynamic range of emotions, from the fierce energy of "Allegro barbaro" to the mournful beauty of "Andante lamentoso," culminating in the intense "Allegro agitato." The String Quartet No. 3, also in three movements, provides a more introspective journey, with the "Moderato con moto" and "Moderato quasi improvisato" movements showcasing Ornstein's innovative approach to form and structure, while the "Allegro con moto" brings the album to a thrilling close.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 14 minutes, this album is a testament to Ornstein's enduring influence on American classical music. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience, highlighting the genius of one of America's most innovative composers.
